When planning a trip a lot of people tend to “wing it” and go with the flow. Not sure that’s going to work when you’re planning a trip that’s going to last a few weeks or more. So, I thought of a few good books that I was interested in and had a lot of places to see Inside the US. There is a link for all of them at the end of this post in case you would like to use them for your trip.
When traveling in an RV (or whatever), there are some questions you need to ask yourself before starting out.
How long do plan on staying?
This will depend on how you want to travel. If you are a weekend, part-time or full-time traveler makes a big difference in how long you can stay in one place at any given time. Also, do you want to stay a couple of days and just see a few things or do you want to stay longer so you can see more sites? Decide how long and where you want to stay. Start checking out campsites near the place, Harvest Hosts, or boondocking places that can accommodate you when you want to be there. If you want to stay in a hotel, that’s ok too. This will be needed to add to your spending plan.
How much is in the spending plan?
How are you going to fund your trip? Are you putting money aside for it? Can you work remotely? Do you already have a retirement fund? How much money do you plan on spending at each location?
After you figure out where you want to go and how long you want to stay, write down what you want to do while you’re there and all the expenses that it takes to enjoy your trip. This way you’ll know how much you’ll need so you can enjoy the trip and you won’t be stressed out. Nothing is worse than getting somewhere and running out of money.
Remember to weigh the cost of staying somewhere against the gas that is needed to travel. It might be better to stay at one place for a week than to go to several places in that week.
