There were five different battles fought here during the War of the States. Bolivar Heights was also the largest corral and wagon yard during this time in history.
The Harpers Ferry Toy Train Museum
features an impressive collection of toy trains and railroad memorabilia. The train sizes range from miniature sets to a small model that you can ride. The ride goes around the property and is fun for young and old.
The Harpers Ferry Ghost Tours
is a spooky nighttime tour of Harpers Ferry and hear tales of ghosts and hauntings. The tour is family and dog friendly with spooky stories appropriate for all ages. The daytime tour is rated #1 on TripAdvisor and the night tour is #2.
The Harpers Ferry Adventure Center
is an outdoor adventure center that offers a range of activities such as white-water rafting, zip-lining, and ropes courses. They offer team-building activities for companies, schools, scouts, and other groups. They also have combo packages, season passes, and gift cards!
The Harpers Ferry Train Station
was a crucial stop on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and played a significant role in the town’s industrial history. It was built in 1894 and came during a time of increased tourism and overlooks a gorgeous view of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Harpers Ferry Canopy Tour
from River Riders is a thrilling zipline adventure through the treetops with stunning views of the river and town. It is a 2 – 3 hour adventure through the treetops of a network of seven ziplines. There are also a couple of adventure bridges and a 25-foot free-fall rappelling station. This is not for the faint at heart.
The Harpers Ferry Civil War Museum
offers a comprehensive look at the Civil War and its impact on Harpers Ferry and the surrounding area. It includes the Kennedy farmhouse, Belle Boyd House, and the Mount Olivet Cemetery. John Brown’s raid was the beginning point when West Virginia seceded from Virginia and became its own state.
